  1. Fashion Revolution is an online revolution, people from all around the world are a part of it. Their team comprises of designers, writers, consumers,  business leaders, policymakers, brands, retailers, marketers, producers, makers, workers and fashion lovers. They believe in creating a fashion world that benefits the environment, people, creativity and profit in equal measures. 
    22nd-28th April 2019 was the Fashion Revolution Week, which falls on the anniversary of Rana Plaza incident in Bangladesh which killed over 1000 people.

  2. Chayah Movement is a for profit social movement which helps people find new clothes. The clothes that they sell are up-cycled and donated, and the selling focuses on benefiting local non-profits who support foster youth and adults transitioning to the workforce. They recycle all kinds of textiles.

#hashtags and campaigns

  • In the fashion revolution week, #whomademyclothes was popularized by people who wanted brands to have a more transparent approach in the process of garment construction. This hashtag was followed by #imadeyourclothes, where brands and designers posted pictures of the ones who work to make their garment to give them due credit.

  • Other hashtags like #sustainability and #sustainablefashion are also treanding since 2018.

  • "Lyst has reported a 47% increase in shoppers looking for items that have ethical and style credentials with terms such as “vegan leather” and “organic cotton." (forbes.com)

Celebrities

Various celebrities have came out in the support of Ethical and Sustainable fashion and because of their wide fan following, more and more people are getting to know about it.

  • The Press Tour- It is a page started by Emma Watson where she posts her outfits for various events and gives a detailed description of making of the garment in the captions which is verified by Eco-Age , which is a brand consultancy committed to helping brands create a culture of purpose and sustainability. She also swore that she would never wear a garment unless she knew where it came from.

  • Meghan Markle, being a member of the Royal Family, has a lot of people looking up to her and she uses that as an opportunity to raise her voice against unhealthy working practices in garment making factories. She also tries to wear ethically clean brands and is often seeing sustaining and repeating her garments.
